4-star general to take command of U.S. Army Pacific

Army Gen. Vincent Brooks will take command of the 80,000 soldiers in the Pacific on Tuesday becoming the first four-star general at Fort Shafter since 1974.

Brooks will succeed Lt. Gen. Francis Wiercinski who served as U.S. Army Pacific commanding general for more than two years.

Wiercinski will retire after 34 years of service, with the last eight years stationed in the Pacific. 

Brooks will become the 60th commanding general of U.S. Army Pacific.
