Man who died while fishing off Kauai’s south shore is identified
A Kapaa man who died while fishing in waters off Kauai’s south shore Friday afternoon was identified as Paul Guenther.
The 59-year-old Guenther was fishing with friends roughly eight miles offshore. About 3 p.m., witnesses say that he began complaining of feeling faint and collapsed a short time later. Using the boat’s radio, friends immediately contacted the U.S. Coast Guard for assistance.
Coast Guard personnel responded and began performing CPR on the unresponsive body, but attempts to resuscitate the victim were unsuccessful. He was taken to Nawiliwili Boat Harbor, where awaiting medics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Police said foul play is not suspected.
