Maui Police opened an attempted murder investigation Sunday after officers responded to a disorderly conduct call to find a man covered in blood, a department spokesman said.

Lt. William Jaun said police responded to an abuse in progress case on Molokai Akau Street in Kahului at around 5:45 a.m. because two men were reportedly fighting.

Suspects fled when police arrived, but a man was left injured and bleeding, Juan said. The man was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Juan said the victim sustained lacerations and a pellet wound from a pellet gun that was shot. He said police investigation revealed that the victim was attacked when he came out of a residence.

Police are still trying to locate the suspects, who are wanted on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder, Juan said.
