Kauai police shoot, kill Kalaheo man
Kauai police shot and killed a 21-year-old Kalaheo man in Nawiliwili Friday night after he allegedly pointed a gun at four officers, a county spokeswoman said.
County officials said police were making a routine check for criminal activity around 10:40 p.m. in the Nawiliwili jetty area when they came upon a gathering of adults and juveniles.
The officers found the Kalaheo man in a parked vehicle holding two firearms and told him to drop his weapons, officials said in a news release. The man allegedly threw one of the guns out of the car but held on to the other.
He then pointed the firearm toward the officers, officials said.
The officers fired their weapons to stop the threat, and the man later died. Officials said his name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
No other witnesses or officers were injured.

“Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased,” Kauai Police Chief Darryl Perry said in a news release. “I want to assure the public that this shooting will be investigated completely and vigorously.”
