Mark Wiebe overcame windy conditions at Kapolei Golf Club today to take the first-round lead of the Pacific Links Hawaii Championship with an 8-under 64.

Wiebe holds a two-shot advantage over Mark Calcavecchia and John Cook, who are tied for second with a pair of 66s. Brian Henninger is alone in fourth with a 5-under 67.

Vijay Singh, making his first Champions Tour appearance, fashioned a 3-under 69 and is tied for eighth.

“The wind today was tough,” Wiebe said, who tied his low round on the Champions Tour. He has done it four times. “When we come here, we know the wind is going to blow. If it didn’t, it would be weird.”

Defending champion Willie Wood is tied for eighth after shooting a 69. He went 66 consecutive holes here without a bogey, before bogeying two of three on the home half.
