The federal government has awarded the Hawaii State Department of Labor and Industrial Relations a $1.8 million grant to provide job training for the long-term unemployed.

The funding from the U.S. Department of Labor it from was made available by the Workforce Investment Act Dislocated Worker training and employment program. The grant is part of the DOL’s effort to assist the long-term unemployed, defined as those workers who have been unemployed for 27 weeks or longer, with an emphasis on those workers facing the termination of their unemployment benefits. 

“Funding will support on-the-Job Training, customized training, registered apprenticeship programs and other training activities that connect individuals with employers,” according to a DLIR news release.
