» The tax penalty for not having health insurance under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, in 2015 is $325 per adult and $162.50 per child, or 2 percent of income, whichever is greater. In 2016 the penalty is $695 per adult and $347.50 per child, or 2.5 percent of income. A Page A1 story Friday omitted the percentages for those years. The Obamacare penalty in 2014 is capped at $285 if you pay the flat rate. A Page A16 info box with the story mentioned the $285 cap but did not include that it was for the flat-rate penalty only. There is a separate cap calculation for penalties based on percentage of income.
Also, if your annual income is below $52,920 for a single person or $108,360 for a family of four, you may qualify for tax credits to lower your health insurance cost. The info box misstated the income range.
