This composite satellite image shows a weather system approaching the state from the north that could bring rain to Kauai and Oahu counties through early Tuesday and locally heavy showers through the end of the week.

It could be a soggy week ahead starting on Oahu and Kauai moving over the rest of the islands this week, National Weather Service forecasters predict.

A weather system moving over the islands from the northwest brought increased showers over windward areas of the islands on Sunday, with isolated thunderstorms and locally heavy showers possible over Kauai and Oahu through early Tuesday.

The forecast for Honolulu calls for cloudy skies and a 50 percent chance of rain today. Some of those showers may develop into thunderstorms through early Tuesday.

Winds may also change, becoming southeasterly or variable.

The cloudy skies and chance of scattered showers are expected to continue through Saturday.
