Another weekly volleyball honor for UH’s Hartong
Hawaii senior Emily Hartong, who led the Rainbow Wahine to road wins over Long Beach State and UC Irvine last week, Monday was named the Big West Volleyball Player of the Week for the third time this season. The All-American outside hitter led Hawaii in kills, digs and hitting percentage as the Wahine remained unbeaten in conference play at 4-0. She posted back-to-back double-doubles in the sweep of the 49ers and the four-setter against the Anteaters, extending UH’s winning streak against Big West opponents to 22 straight.
Hartong had 14 kills and 11 digs while hitting .414 (14-2-29) against Long Beach State Friday. On Saturday, she had her fifth match with 20 or more kills, finishing with 25 against UCI , adding 11 digs for her eighth double-double this season. She also hit .488 (25-4-43) clip and was in on five blocks. Hartong leads the Big West in total kills (259) and kills per set (4.62), while ranking No. 8 in hitting percentage (.308).
