Hearing scheduled for local musician charged with assault
The preliminary hearing for the 26-year-old local musician accused of choking and stabbing his girlfriend will be held in District Court Wednesday.
Kaipo Kapua entered a plea of not guilty Monday in District Court. He is charged with second-degree assault, two counts of terroristic threatening and abuse after allegedly attacking his live-in girlfriend, Sara Wilson, 23, Thursday morning.
Kapua is free after posting $50,000 bond on Monday.
According to the affidavit, Wilson, 23, who said she has been living with Kapua at a Kahaluu home for the past two years, said they were arguing when Kapua tried to strangle her twice and then attacked her with a knife. Wilson said her boyfriend tried to stab her in the throat and stomach and ended up striking her right knee when she deflected the attack.
In 2010 Kapua pleaded no contest to a third-degree assault charge. He was ordered to pay a $150 fine and $2,026 in restitution, according to court records.
In April police issued a CrimeStoppers bulletin for Kapua, who had disappeared for a day. Friends reported his disappearance after he had an argument with a girlfriend and hadn’t been seen for nearly 24 hours, according to media reports.
