More than 250 acres have been scorched at a Schofield Barracks range from a fire that began more than a week ago.

The brush fire flared up again Wednesday morning, blanketing the area in dense smoke.

Army wildland fire crews and Marine firefighters responded to the blaze on remote military property.

Six helicopters, including one from the Honolulu Fire Department, are responding to the fire with water bucket drops.

The Army is also using an unmanned drone to help identify hot spots.

The fire first started in the area, Oct. 15. It was 100 percent contained Sunday evening with no visible smoke or hot spots, the Army said.

The Army said the fire poses no threat to nearby facilities or people, nor have any endangered or protected species been harmed. 

The original fire started in the range impact area. No prescribed burns were taking place Wednesday or last week.
