Crews continue to battle brushfire at Schofield Barracks
U.S. Army wildland fire crews continued today to fight a stubborn brush fire for the past five days at a training range in the mountains of Schofield Barracks.
The fire on Army and Dole Food Company property has burned some 450 acres of brush land but posed no threat to facilities or endangered species, Army spokesman Dennis Drake said.
Drake said today was the first day the fire hadn’t spread.
Drake said firefighting has been limited to the daytime because of the mountainous terrain and the winds have been stirring the fire in the early morning hours.
Fire crews directed water bucket drops by Army and Marine helicopters.
The brush fire started Tuesday at a training range on Schofield Barracks due to the rekindling of a fire from last week.
