2 suspected beach thieves arrested in Waikiki
Police arrested two suspected beach thieves in separate instances in Waikiki over the holiday weekend.
Police said witnesses chased and captured a 14-year-old boy who grabbed unattended property on a Waikiki Beach at about 11 a.m. and tried to run away.
The witnesses caught the boy and police arrested him at 11:15 a.m. on suspicion of robbery. He was released pending further investigation.
On Sunday, police arrested a 22-year-old man who allegedly stole unattended items from a Waikiki beach at about 10:45 a.m.
Officers arrested the 22-year-old man at about 11:50 a.m. and he was charged with third-degree theft. Bail was set at $1,000.
