New tools shine light on Hawaii campaign spending

KAILUA-KONA » An enhanced website and app are making it easier for the public to see how money is spent in state and county political campaigns.

State Campaign Spending Commission Executive Director Kristin Izumi-Nitao says the site will give voters a good picture of who they’re voting for.

West Hawaii Today reported today new features include expenditures broken down by pie-charts and the ability to see how much a contributor gave to each candidate. The charts and graphs will be updated automatically as candidates file their campaign reports.

Good-government groups are praising the innovations for making public data more accessible.
