Police investigated a fatal motorcycle crash on Kaahumanu Street near Komo Mai Drive early this morning.

A 25-year-old Pearl City man died early Friday morning after he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a parked car in Aiea. He was identified as James Stayton.

Police said the accident occurred at 1:05 a.m. on Kaahumanu Street near Komo Mai Drive.

The motorcyclist was driving a 2007 blue Yamaha motorcycle and was traveling north on Kaahumanu Street when he collided with a parked 2012 blue Honda Civic sedan. The Honda was unoccupied, police said. Speed may have been a factor in the accident.

The driver was taken in critical condition to Pali Momi Medical Center where he died.

This was Oahu’s 53rd traffic death, compared to 57 at the same time last year,

Police closed the street for about two hours in both directions between Hookanike Street and Komo Mai Drive as they investigated the scene.
