Today is the last day for Oahu residents to purchase New Year’s Eve firecracker permits at satellite city hall offices around the island.
The $25 permits will be available until 4:30 p.m.
Under the city’s fireworks ordinance, permits are required to buy firecrackers from licensed retailers. One permit allows for the purchase of up to 5,000 non-aerial individual firecracker units between 2:01 a.m. on Thursday and midnight on Dec. 31.
Firecrackers can only be set off on Oahu from 9 p.m. on Dec. 31 to 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.
Meanwhile, on Kauai, officials are reminding Garden Isle residents that $25 firecracker applications are still available at the Kauai Fire Department headquarters in the Piikoi building of the Lihue Civic Center weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Unlike Honolulu, which stops sale of firecracker permits 10 days before the permitted holiday, Kauai permits wil be available until Dec. 31, officials said.
