Lost hikers airlifted to safety on Big Isle
A couple in the Volcano area on the Big Island got lost while hiking Thursday afternoon and needed to be airlifted by county fire-rescue personnel.
A chopper and ground crew were dispatched after hikers called for help from the trail by Ala Kapena Drive around 3 p.m. Using the GPS coordinated supplied by the couple, rescuers were able to locate and airlift them out of the forest.
No injuries were reported.
