Cool nights, with temperatures dropping into the 50s and low 60s in Honolulu, and calm sunny days are expected after a gusty and rainy Wednesday.

The gusty winds that caused power outages across Oahu and closed parks on Kauai began to ease tonight. But the winds were still blowing strong, at least until midnight, on Maui and the Big Island.

Winds of up to 123 mph were reported on Hawaii island summits and localized gusts of up to 50 mph were reported in lower elevations. On Maui, northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts of more than 35 mph blew into the evening.

National Weather Service forecasters say a cold front that brought rains and winds to the islands should pass by Thursday, leaving sunny skies and cold north winds in its wake.

Cool nights with temperatures in the 50s or low 60s are expected through Saturday night.

Another cold front is expected to approach the islands Sunday or Monday, bringing an increased chance of showers through Tuesday.

The system may stall near Maui until it finally clears out on Tuesday or Wednesday.
