High surf pummeled Waimea Bay on Thursday

A high surf warning is issued for the north-facing shores of Kauai, Niihau, Oahu, Molokai, Maui, and the Big Island until 6 a.m. Thursday.

Surf on north-facing shores are expected to reach 10 to 15 feet tonight.

Forecasters say beachgoers should expect waves to sweep across beaches. Strong breaking waves and currents can also make swimming dangerous, even deadly for inexperienced swimmers.
