A 72-year-old Waipahu man entered a plea of not guilty Thursday in Circuit Court in the stabbing death of a 42-year-old man last month.

An Oahu grand jury indicted Jose Inigo with murder in connection with the Jan. 12 stabbing death of Marlo G. Basuel at a Waipahu home.

Inigo appeared before Circuit Judge Richard Perkins on Thursday via a closed circuit video link from Oahu Community Correctional Center, where he is being held unable to post $300,000 bail.

Perkins set trial for the week of April 21 before Circuit Judge Glenn Kim.

State Circuit Judge Richard Perkins reaffirmed bail for Inigo at $300,000. He also granted Inigo’s request for an Ilocano interpreter in future court proceedings.

Police arrested Inigo three days after the murder, not far from the scene, at his Kahualoa Place home after Inigo sought medical attention for an injury to one of his hands.

Police said Basuel fought with two other men on Jan. 12. Both suspects fled, but only Inigo was arrested.
