UH softball team shuts out Saint Mary’s
Hawaii freshman Heather Morales threw her third shutout of the season in a 6-0 win over Saint Mary’s in the third-place game of the Bank of Hawaii Invitational on Sunday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Morales scattered seven hits, walked three and struck out one and improved to 6-4 with her fourth complete-game performance.
Keiki Carlos, Leisha Li’ili’i and Lindsey Willmon each drove in two runs for the Wahine (9-6), who halted a three-game skid that began with a loss to the Gaels (5-10) on Friday.
Sarina Jaramillo and Willmon led off the top of the third with back-to-back singles and advanced on an error. One out later, Carlos lined a double off the fence in left-center and Li’ili’i homered to center on the next pitch to give UH a 4-0 lead.
Jaramillo reached with her third single of the game with two out in the top of the sixth and Willmon extended the lead to 6-0 with a two-run homer to right center.
That was more than enough for Morales, who stranded nine Saint Mary’s runners on base.
