ANCHORAGE, Alaska >> Anchorage police say a 32-year-old man is under arrest after he broke out of his ankle monitor and fled to Hawaii.

KTUU reports Joshua Leigh cut the monitor off at an hardware store and left the state on a flight to Maui. A monitoring agency told police that the monitor was last reported at a hardware store.

A warrant was issued Saturday for Leigh, who was awaiting trial on felony charges.

Police obtained an extraditable warrant, and Leigh was stopped by Maui police after the plane landed.

Leigh was returned to Anchorage. He’s charged with violating conditions of his release and criminal mischief. Online court records don’t list a lawyer for Leigh in this case.
