Fire destroys half of a Pahoa home

Hawaii County firefighters extinguished a house fire in Pahoa overnight.

Firefighters responded to the alarm at 12:19 a.m. at a single-story wooden home at 16-2162 Hibiscus Drive.

Firefighters arrived at 12:34 a.m., brought the fire under control at 12:45 a.m. and extinguished the blaze by 1:25 a.m.

About 30 percent of the front of the home was on fire. Damage is estimated at about $187,000 to the home and its contents.

Firefighters were able to save about half of the structure, estimated at $127,000.

There were no injuries.

The cause is under investigation.

The Red Cross is assisting the residents of the home.
