Homeless man, 44, assaulted at Maui park dies
Maui police said a 44-year-old homeless man who was assaulted March 15 at Kalama Park in Kihei has died, and the case has been reclassified as a murder case from an attempted murder.
Michael Phillip Gray, also known as “Smiley,” died Friday at Maui Memorial Medical Center from injuries he sustained.
Police arrested a Kihei man and two juvenile males in connection with the investigation.
Police said Gray was found unconscious on the ground near a pavilion by the skating rink, and suffered multiple injuries.
Due to Gray’s death, the case was reclassified as a second-degree murder, police said.
Anyone with information concerning the case is asked to call Detective Jeffrey Mahoney at 875-5409 or CrimeStoppers.
