Hawaii pounds Cal State Northridge to end 8-game skid
Scott Squier allowed one run over seven innings and Stephen Ventimilia had two hits and scored three times to lead Hawaii to a 9-1 win over Cal State Northridge to avoid a series sweep on Saturday at Matador Field in Northridge, Calif.
Squier (3-3) allowed seven hits and struck out six to help Hawaii (15-21, 3-9 Big West) end an eight-game losing streak. John Salas (4-3) gave up four runs on five hits in six innings to take the loss for the Matadors (15-24, 4-8).
Marc Flores singled and drove in three runs and Kaeo Aliviado went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Aliviado hit one of four Hawaii doubles in the game as UH finished with 11 hits.
Juliene Jones pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Aliviado has reached base safely in 20 straight games.
Hawaii’s road trip continues with a single game at Southern California on Tuesday before starting a three-game series at Cal State Fullerton on Friday.
