With several brush fires reported this week in Leeward Oahu, fire officials are asking residents to report any suspicious activities there to police and other authorities.
Fire officials did not yet have causes of the recent brush fires
The latest blaze was reported in Waianae at 12:58 p.m. Thursday and scorched seven acres near Puhawa and Puuhulu roads. No structures were reported damaged. The Waianae fire was contained by 25 firefighters at 2:31 p.m. However, firefighters will remain in area until dusk to ensure no flare-ups occur.
There were two separate fires in Nanakuli near Nanaikapono Elementary School on Wednesday.
Firefighters were called back to Nanakuli Thursday morning to extinguish one of the brush fires that flared up because of strong winds.
That brush fire was reported at 9 p.m. Wednesday near Nanaikapono Elementary School on Mano Avenue. It was reported extinguished nearly 90 minutes later. No structures were reported damage.
However, hot spots were reported in the same area at 9:51 a.m. Thursday.
Earlier Thursday morning, a brush fire burned three acres of vacant land across from the new East Kapolei Fire Station.
The fire was reported at 4:43 a.m. on a vacant lot near the fire station on Kinoiki Street, close to Kapolei Parkway, authorities reported.
Firefighters brought the flames under control an hour later. Heavy smoke was reported, but the fire did not threaten neighboring homes. No injuries were reported.
