Worker caught in trench filled with water from broken water main
A 59-year-old Board of Water Supply worker avoided serious injury Friday after he was caught in a trench that filled with water from a broken pipe.
The worker, who has been with the utility for 33 years, was part of a crew dispatched to repair a 16-inch water main at North School Street near Kamehameha IV Road, according to a board spokesperson.
About 9:30 a.m., the crew reactivated the flow of water, causing the pipe to rupture. The worker was pulled from the trench by his co-workers and was transported to a local hospital for observation.
Repairs on the main were completed Saturday morning and service was restored to 26 homes and businesses.
