A small earthquake struck north of Molokai Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 3.4, struck at 4:40 p.m. at a depth of 2.9 miles, according to preliminary information from the U.S. Geological Survey. It was centered 39 miles north of Kualapuu, Molokai, and 45 miles east-northeast of Kailua.

No tsunami advisory was issued after the small quake.

The USGS "Did you feel it?" web page for the quake received eight initial responses from Molokai and Oahu, including one from Kapolei about 66 miles from the epicenter.
