Honolulu firefighters and police responded to Alohea St. near Kapiolani Community College Thursday after a skateboarder collided with a vehicle Thursday afternoon.

The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the 53-year-old man killed Thursday in a skateboarding accident as John Ohelo of Kaimuki.

Police said Ohelo was riding a skateboard on Alohea Avenue about 12:15 p.m., when he made a right turn onto 10th Avenue in Kaimuki and struck a car stopped at a stop sign.

Paramedics took him to a hospital in critical condition. He died at the hospital shortly after arriving.

The crash was the 28th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 33 for the same period last year.
