Pennsylvania man, 73, dead after snorkeling off Maui

A 73-year-old visitor from Pennsylvania died Sunday during a guided snorkeling activity off Wailea Point in Kihei.

According to Maui police, John Ready of Hatboro, Penn., was found floating about 100 yards from shore around 12:15 p.m. CPR was performed on Ready until first responders brought him to shore.

Ready was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said Ready was a passenger on a Pacific Whale Foundation cruise boat and was snorkeling at the time of the incident.

The cause of death is unknown pending the results of an autopsy.
