Chimpanzee briefly escapes Honolulu Zoo enclosure
Visitors were evacuated at the Honolulu Zoo in Waikiki after a chimpanzee escaped Tuesday afternoon.
The chimpanzee escaped from its enclosure at about 4:45 p.m., the city said in a written statement.
“Visitors were evacuated to shelters at the zoo for their safety,” Honolulu Zoo Director Jeff Wilkinson said in the statement.
The chimpanzee was contained by 5 p.m. and no one was injured.
