The state has urged the public on Kauai to stay out of the Wailua River and a portion of Wailua Bay after an apparent landslide at Mount Waialeale.

The Department of Health Clean Water Branch issued a press release Wednesday warning of “possible dead animals, fecal matter, broken trees, debris, overflowing cesspools, herbicide and/or pesticides.”

The Surfrider Kauai Chapter first made a report to the state that there were turbid waters in the Wailua River although there was very little rain.

The Kauai Fire Department personnel on an unrelated possible rescue operation also noticed the condition of the river and recorded video footage.
