Kurt Suzuki is batting .305 this season

Maui’s Kurt Suzuki will play in his first All Star game at Target Field in Minnesota on July 15.

Suzuki was among two hometown Twins players named to the American League All Star roster Sunday.

The Wailuku native and Baldwin High School graduate is in his eighth major league season as a catcher.

I don’t know how to describe it," Suzuki said in a story on the Twins official website on MLB.com. "It’s kind of surreal right now. I’m just trying to soak it all in. I’m just trying to have a good time with it and try to enjoy myself. It’s going to be cool. It’s my first one so I don’t know what it’ll be like, but I’m assuming it’ll be pretty fun with the home crowd behind you. This is my home team so this is exciting."

The other Minnesota player selected was closer Glen Perkins.

"I have a knack for bringing catchers," Perkins said with a laugh in the MLB.com story. "I’m excited for him. He’s had a heck of a year. He’s been our best player. He’s more than deserving. I’m excited for him, and hopefully I’ll get the chance to throw the ball to him."

Rosters for the MLB All-Star game on Tuesday, July 15 at Target Field, Minneapolis (x-inactive; r-replacement).
