Pahoa man arrested after officer-involved shooting
Hawaii County police arrested a 38-year-old Pahoa man on suspicion of first-degree and second-degree attempted murder for allegedly trying to run down two officers on Monday in his sport utility vehicle.
Police arrested Riley Asuncion just before 7 p.m. Monday for terroristic threatening after he was released from the hospital.
Assistant Police Chief Henry Tavares said Tuesday that Asuncion was in stable condition after he suffered a “superficial wound” in the torso sustained from shots fired by police. He said police were still investigating what caused the wound.
The shots were fired when he allegedly tried to run over officers while they were pursuing a vehicle on foot.
Police also arrested Asuncion on suspicion of unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and assault of a 30-year-old woman in downtown Hilo.
