Ports closing on Oahu, Maui and Kauai counties
The Coast Guard is closing ports on Oahu, the Big Island, Maui, Lanai and Molokai and Young Brothers Ltd. has cancelled shipments of goods Thursday via sailings for Kahului, on Maui, Nawiliwili on Kauai, and Kawaihae on Hawaii island.
The Coast Guard said all ocean-going commercial vessels and barges greated than 200 gross tons are expected to make preparations to leave the ports.
Ports around the islands have various closing times Thursday for pick-ups of previous shipments, depending on the island.
Once the storm has passed and the threat of severe weather has subsided, the Coast Guard, Army Corp of Engineers and State of Hawaii will jointly conduct surveys of channel blockage and prioritize steps to resume essential, then normal, vessel traffic, the Coast Guard said.
Young Brothers may attempt recovery sailings Saturday as weather and ocean conditions permit, and is instructing customers to check its website for updates on all its storm-related operations.
