UH campuses, private universities to be closed Friday
All University of Hawaii campuses, including community colleges, will be closed Friday because of Hurricane Iselle, officials announced.
UH Hilo and Hawaii Community College were already closed on Thursday in anticipation of the storm. UH Maui College and its education centers in Hana, Lahaina and on Molokai and Lanai were to close at noon Thursday. Weekend activities are also suspended.
Several private universities will also be closed.
>> Hawaii Pacific University is closing both its campuses on Friday and Saturday.
>> Brigham Young University Hawaii’s Cannon Activities Center is a designated American Red Cross hurricane evacuation shelter for the community and will open at 10 p.m. Thursday.
>> Chaminade University closed its campuses Thursday afternoon, and will remain closed through Saturday. The closures include the university’s Kaimuki area campus, satellite campuses and all military base locations. Only employees deemed as essential — with responsibilities related to campus emergency operations — will be asked to report to work.
