Gov. Neil Abercrombie is expected to travel to Hawaii island Wednesday to get a first-hand glimpse of the damage caused by Tropical Storm Iselle, his office said.

"He’s definitely going to go," Justin Fujioka, the governor’s spokesman, said.

Abercrombie did a "virtual assessment" of the storm’s aftermath shortly after it passed, viewing video in real time filmed from a National Guard helicopter as he directed the state’s response from the Emergency Operations Center in Diamond Head Crater.

He spent Tuesday in internal staff meetings and received briefings on the situation on the Big Island, Fujioka said.

Iselle made landfall on Hawaii island Friday, blowing down scores of trees and knocking out power and water service for thousands of residents.The Puna district, south of Hilo, bore the brunt of the damage.
