• Lowell weakens to tropical storm in Eastern Pacific

Expect a few showers, especially over windward and mauka areas, as a band of tropical moisture moves over the state.

Satellite images showed most of the clouds over Maui County Thursday morning, but Oahu also got some showers.

National Weather Service meteorologist Maureen Ballard said most of the clouds will remain off-shore, but some rain will be blown in with the tradewinds and scattered showers could also reach leeward areas.

The forecast for Honolulu and south shores of Oahu calls for mostly sunny skies in the morning with scattered showers in the afternoon. There’s a 40 percent chance of rain Thursday and a 50 percent chance of rain Thursday night.

The windward and mauka areas on northeast side of Oahu have a 70 to 90 percent chance of rain through Tuesday.

The clouds began moving Wednesday over the Big Island, which saw brief heavy rain of about an inch an hour Wednesday night. Island Dairy near Ookala got 3.4 inches overnight and the Hilo Airport recorded 2.1 inches in the 24-hour period ending at 8 a.m. Thursday.

The increased moisture in the air will also make for muggy conditions. But tradewinds of about 10 to 15 mph should keep the humidity bearable.

Forecasters say another batch of moisture may move over the state on Sunday, bringing another bout of what forecasters call enhanced tradewind showers.
