Five Hawaii destinations are among the top 10 favorites for couples choosing an American honeymoon so far in 2014, according to Facebook data.

Couples’ "check-ins," or online notations of their presence at a given spot, were reviewed by Facebook data analysts.

Among international and domestic honeymooners, the top destinations worldwide were No. 1, Las Vegas, No. 2, Lahaina, Maui and No. 3, Honolulu.

The top 10 U.S. destinations list also was topped by Las Vegas, with Hawaii locales making a strong showing.

Behind the Ninth Island, the top U.S. destinations in rank-order are: No 2,  Lahaina, Maui, No. 3, Honolulu, No. 4, Lihue, Kauai; No. 5, Key West, Fla., No. 6, Poipu, Kauai, No. 7, Kihei, Maui; No. 8, Gatlinburg, Tenn., New York City, and No. 10, Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

After Kihei, the top Hawaii destinations for domestic and international honeymooners are Kahului, Maui; Koloa, Kauai, Makena, then Wailea, Maui, and at No. 10 among Hawaii destinations, is Princeville, Kauai.

Facebook identified honeymoon check-ins based on couples using the social network who both posted a marriage event in 2014 and checked into a location within two weeks of their marriage date. Check-ins within 20 miles of their home location were excluded.

More than 100 couples traveled more than 12,000 miles to reach their honeymoon destination.
