A Kailua man is in critical condition after crashing his motorcycle trying to make a turn on the Pali on-ramp from the Punchbowl H-1 westbound entrance around 1:26 a.m. Saturday, police said.

The 27-year-old man was witnessed speeding on his 2013 Victory motorcycle and was unable to make the turn on the highway.  He drove up a dirt embankment and collided head-on with a tree, police said.

He suffered head and internal injuries and paramedics transported him to Queen’s Hospital.

He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.
