National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for parts of Maui until 6:45 p.m. Monday.

“At 4:40 p.m., radar showed heavy rain falling at rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour on the southeast slopes of Haleakala between Ulupalakua and Kaupo,” the advisory said. “Those travelling along Piilani Highway may encounter water flowing in previously dry gulches.”

Locations in the advisory include Nuu, the advisory said.

Forecasters expect afternoon showers again Tuesday, but said tradewinds should start to return on Wednedsay, bringing some relief to the hot, muggy Kona weather and vog that moved over the western islands.

The forecast for Honolulu and southern areas of Oahu calls for a 50 percent chance of rain on Tuesday.

Light, variable to southwesterly winds are blowing vog over Oahu and highs could reach 90 degrees Tuesday.
