An aerial assessment late Saturday morning showed the flow front of the June 27 Kilauea lava moving in a northeast direction and advancing 50 yards since Friday, Hawaii County Civil Defense said.

The flow front on Friday was still narrow, roughly 600 feet wide and about 0.8 miles upslope from Apa?a St. and 1.5 miles from P?hoa Village Road, according to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

The flow front is currently in an area of lighter vegetation east of the forest line with little burning activity along the flow front, Civil Defense said.

The second very short and narrow breakout along the north side of the flow front also remains active and has advanced approximately 30 yards but remains behind or further back of the flow front.   Smoke conditions in the area was moderate due to the active burning along the edge of the flow, according to Civil Defense.

The current flow activity does not pose an immediate threat to area communities and no evacuation is needed at this time, officials said.
