The family of missing hiker Noemi Alcotas issued a statement Monday evening thanking friends and family for their support and acknowledging government agencies who participated in intensive land, sea and air searches for Alcotas.

The search ended Monday.

"We would like to thank the Coast Guard, the Honolulu Fire Department, the Honolulu Police Department, the Ocean Safety, and all the government agencies involved for all their efforts and continued efforts in finding Noemi," Alcotas’ family wrote.

In their statement to the media, Alcotas’s family also extended their thoughts and prayers to the Acosta family.

The family said it continues to pray for Alcotas’ safe return and asked anyone who might have further information about the case to come forward. The Honolulu Fire Department has suspended its search for missing hiker Noemi Alcotas pending further information.

Alcotas has been missing since Friday when, investigators say, she and boyfriend Jojo Acosta were apparently swept into waters off a remote area of Hanauma Bay by a large wave.

Hikers found bags belonging to Alcotas and Acosta on a cliff above the Bridge Rock shoreline formation and alerted HFD and Ocean Safety. Acosta’s body was discovered in the water later that day.

There has been no further sign of Alcotas despite more than three full days of intensive land, sea and air searches.
