Personnel from the Maui Fire Department and Haleakala National Park assisted a 56-year-old woman off of the Pipiwai Trail on Sunday afternoon.

The woman, a visitor from France, injured her left ankle while hiking and was unable to walk out on her own. Rescuers carried the woman about a quarter-mile to a park service road, where she was then transferred to a vehicle and taken to the park’s base yard, where she was examined and treated by medics.
