A 68-year-old Japanese man died Friday after being pulled from the water four days earlier at Waikiki Beach.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Kazumi Shimomae, of Osaka, Japan.

Police said Shimomae died at the hospital about 7:10 p.m. Friday.

Shimomae was not breathing and did not have a pulse when lifeguards pulled him from the water about 2:15 p.m. Monday, an Emergency Medical Services report said.

Lifeguards performed CPR on Shimomae, who regained a pulse and started breathing again. 

Paramedics took him to the hospital in critical condition.
