Strong quake off Indonesia poses no tsunami threat to Hawaii

A temblor struck at 12:10 a.m. Hawaii time, centered 71 miles west-northwest of Tobelo, Indonesia at a depth of about 30 miles, according to officials at the U.S. Geological Survey.

A preliminary magnitude-6.9 earthquake off the coast of Tobelo, Indonesia early Friday posed no tsunami threat to Hawaii, according to officials at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The temblor, which struck at 12:10 a.m. Hawaii time, was centered 71 miles west-northwest of Tobelo, Indonesia at a depth of about 30 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

No injuries were immediately reported.
