Hawaii survives five-setter with UC Santa Barbara

Freshman Kalei Greeley put down a career-high19 kills and sophomore Nikki Taylor added 16 as Hawaii rallied to top UC Santa Barbara 25-23, 25-23, 25-27, 18-25, 15-12 in a critical Big West volleyball match Friday night in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Junior middle Olivia Magill added 14 kills and Taylor added a career-high 21 digs for the Rainbow Wahine (18-6, 10-3). The victory kept alive Hawaii’s hopes for a postseason berth.

The Rainbow Wahine are three games behind No. 20 Long Beach State (23-4, 13-0) and, barring a collapse by the 49ers in their last three matches, Hawaii will finish second in the conference for the first time since 1994. Ali Barbeau led the Gauchos (12-14, 7-8) with 22 kills. It was the second consecutive season that Hawaii had defeated UCSB in five sets in the Thunderdome.

Hawaii is at Cal Poly (9-14, 4-10) Saturday night to conclude its final regular-season road trip.
