Rainbow Wahine basketball team beats UNLV 79-70
University of Hawaii center Connie Morris scored a season-high 21 points to lead the Rainbow Wahine to a 79-70 win over UNLV at the Stan Sheriff Center on Sunday to close the Bank of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic.
Morris made 10 of her 13 shots from the field and grabbed seven rebounds and the Wahine bounced back from Friday’s loss to No. 14 California to earn a split in their first tournament of the season.
Destiny King contributed 14 points and six assists and Ashleigh Karaitiana added 13 points to help UH improve to 3-1.
The game was pushed back when the first game of the night between California and Missouri was delayed about 50 minutes. The Missouri team was stuck in an elevator at its hotel for about 90 minutes and didn’t arrive at the arena until 4:45 p.m. The game scheduled for 4:30 instead tipped off at 5:20.
After Cal claimed the tournament title with an 82-70 win over the Tigers, Hawaii never trailed against UNLV (2-2) in its first home win of the season.
UH shot 45.6 percent from the field and outrebounded the Rebels 46-44, scoring 21 second-chance points.
