Hawaii County police investigate Volcano assault
Hawaii County police are investigating an assault and terroristic threatening case after a confrontation early Sunday at a home in Volcano.
At 4:16 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a home on Alii Anela Street in the Royal Hawaiian Estates subdivision.
When police arrived, a 25-year-old male victim reported that someone had banged on his door and that when the victim opened the door, an unknown man holding what appeared to be a firearm charged toward him, and they began fighting, police said. During the struggle, the victim was punched, and a 20-year-old woman who tried to intervene also was punched.
Both victims declined medical treatment.
The suspect then ran toward the road, where he met another man, and both fled, police said. A vehicle was heard speeding away a little later.
The assailant was described as 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a heavy build and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt that was partially covering his face.
