Defense satellite launches from California coast
VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. >> A U.S. defense satellite has launched from California’s central coast.
An Atlas V rocket carrying a classified payload for the National Reconnaissance Office lifted off shortly after 7 p.m. local time Friday from Vandenberg Air Force Base.
A major storm that brought rain, heavy clouds and gusty winds through California delayed the launch on Thursday.
The storm had exited the region by Friday evening, providing a clear window for the launch.
